For this piece, the surface of the Japanese oak becomes a canvas for master sculptor Masahiro Ikawa (Horisho III), who meticulously hand-carves the wood with his chisels. His intentional, rhythmic strokes etch a tactile texture reminiscent of gentle ripples on a sacred river, ensuring that no two plates share the same soul.The carved plate is then immersed in natural Tadeai (indigo), dyed through the traditional Hakkou-date fermentation process. The crests of the hand-carved ripples catch the light, shimmering like sunbeams breaking through deep water.
